Mabon marks the Second Harvest, the end of the grain harvest (which begun at Lughnasadh), and rests on the Autumn Equinox. The Equinox mirrors dwindling of life(and eventual progression to rebirth), as well as the struggle for balance; day and night are equal for a single day (see http://www.geocities.com/CollegePark/4885/mabon.html).
It is also "Michaelmas", the medieval pagans celebration for AA Michael. Now if your not familiar with how awesome Michael is, I suggest you get in contact with him right away. He holds the energy of the spiritual warrior; very strong, loving, and immediate security comes your way when you seek out his presence. I call on him whenver I get frustrated with the daily have-to's. AA Michael is where it is at, I'm telling you.
So, needless to say, I get real exicted for this day of autumal season of bliss to come around again.
We are mourning the beauty of the dwindling sunlight.
The night is conquering the day.
Persephone is returning the underworld to reunite with Hades once more.
